It’s easy to forget how new the team is to Club100, given the amount of success they have achieved in such a short space of time. The team was formed at the end of 2011 when Steve Gray introduced Chris Brown to Club100. After taking part in a test session, the Club100 addiction was complete and the team made its debut at the start of the 2012 season.
The team originally consisted of Chris Dean (the D), Steve Gray (the G) and Chris Brown (the B). After a year of finding their feet, Brown and Dean famously ditched Steve Gray at the end of the year because he was slow and fat. Their ruthlessness paid off, however, and they went on to dominate the rookie championship in 2013, scoring nine podiums in eleven races including six wins. An equally successful intermediate campaign followed in 2014 as they swept to that title too with five wins.
A move up to the clubman championship was always going to be more difficult. The jump between inters and clubman is huge and many teams have lost their way over the years. Unsurprisingly, they struggled for race pace in their first few appearances towards the end of 2014 and the first race of 2015. However, they proved they have the speed by consistently qualifying at the sharp end and winning at Ellough Park. They will no doubt be a consistent front-running team before too long.
Controversy has often followed the team, mostly thanks to the antics of the colourful Chris Brown. His outspokenness and aggressive driving style have often upset his rivals. Their first year was marred by some off-track verbal exchanges with other drivers and a number of on-track accidents with people, especially at the start of races, has caused many people to question his sanity. It’s great!
Brown and Dean are childhood friends and are a bit like an old married couple - Chris Brown being the loud-mouth abusive husband and Chris Dean being the quiet, unassuming wife who puts up with her husband’s quirks with a smile and general good cheer. They have very quickly become part of the Club100 fraternity and take part in virtually all the pre-race test sessions.
