Having failed to make the BUKC team, Jon “Maycrash” Maycock first arrived on the Club100 scene in 2007, competing in the rookie endurance championship with long-time friend Dave Vaughton. After modest success in their first few races, the duo embarked on a full season in 2008. Dominating the opening race and finishing first on the road meant immediate promotion to the Inters championship.
Over the next couple of seasons, Maycock made a name for himself in the inters series, both as a rapid driver and as an iron man who often had to compete in the two hour races on his own due to being let down by his teammates. Maycock was obviously the man carrying the team and the results were sketchy; often starting the season strongly but fading and becoming inconsistent as the year wore on. Things finally came together in 2010 and he won the Inters title with Vaughton and Nick Williams.
However, promotion to the Clubman series for 2011 saw the team struggling for results and Maycock found himself searching for a new berth by the end of the season. His big break came when he joined Chris Bell and Jonny Goddard in the new Pure Racing outfit in the premier championship. With a strong line-up, Maycock could finally show what he was capable of. Although a win eluded them in the first season, they nevertheless scored some solid top 3 results to finish fifth in the championship. 2013 got off to a strong start with their maiden win at the opening round. A further win later in the season and a string of podium finishes saw them finish runner up behind Just So.
Maycock continued to flourish with Pure Racing and, despite the occasional excursion off course that earned him the “Maycrash” title, wins and podiums continued to fall the team’s way, culminating in the premier championship in 2015.
Away from racing, Maycock is a doctor so spends most of his time patronising people and going on strike over pay.
